Mission
The Hattiesburg Area Association of Realtors is not only committed to serving the housing needs of the greater Hattiesburg area but also helping improve the the quality of life for our residents. The Realtors and Affiliates for the Association are hosting the 2nd annual poker run to raise money for the Domestic Family Abuse Shelter, Inc (DAFS). The shelter is open 24 hrs, 7 days per week and provides crucial services for domestic abuse victims: 24-hr crisis line; temporary housing, food, transportation, & personal hygiene items; information & referrals regarding financial, medical, legal, housing, employment & educational assistance; individual & group counseling; victim advocacy in justice & municipal courts; aftercare case management up to 90 days after shelter departure; children's programs; public education programs; and domestic violence intervention programs for abusers. The DAFS shelter is in very poor condition and runs on a tight budget. They are working diligently to raise funds for a larger, well-maintained facility. HAAR will be donating all proceeds from the 2013 Hattiesburg Area Poker Run to help make this facility a reality.
Come Have Some Fun! - About the Poker Run
The Poker Run will kick off at Mugshots on Friday night June 14, 2013. Bring your family and friends for a fabulous Mugshot burger and then drop by the HAAR table to pick up your goody bags for the "run". Your goody bags will contain everything you need to make the "run" on Saturday to our spot sponsors. By visiting all our wonderful spot sponsors, you will earn "poker cards" to play a hand at the party at Brewsky's Saturday night June 15th, 2013. Make purchases at the sponsors and you will earn great benefits and extra cards the night of the party. The winner will win $5,000, 2nd runner up $2,500 and worst hand $500! Great doorprizes will also be up for grabs at Saturday night's party. No matter what your luck, we invite you to come join the party for a fantastic cause!
